As much as we all wished the Fourth Metaproteomic Symposium to be face to face, it's always a pleasure to be part of the protein hype! The "ugly duckling" of the omics brood is finally getting its spotlight, with over 100 participants gathering online from around the globe. Kind of wished we had more talks but nevertheless fruitful with ideas within metaproteomic research, from simulated gut microbiota to innovative bioinformatic pipelines. This is a key moment for the Metaproteomics Initiative to drive more active research in proteins, and to emphasize on the valuable data within metaproteomics when coupled with sister omics tools like metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metabolomics. Do not undermine the power of omics working hand in hand, bring them together and the science will prove it!
