Two fantastic posters as Ali and Helen present their work at the Summer PGR conference in CBE.
Ali showcased his impressive metaproteomics work flow developed for a hydrocarbon degrading community.
His taxonomic and functional analysis has provided clues already about key players involved in breaking down complex organics, as well as some vital enzymes.
Next to adaptively evolve the community and track community and protein expression changes.
Helen presented the brilliant work she completed during lockdown, where she compared the repertoire of glycans on the COVID spike protein expressed in HEK cells versus CHO cells. She discovered some key differences that have implications for diagnostics as well as therapeutic applications.
Its not going into her thesis, but provided some excellent training and novel insight into the complex but beautiful world of glycosylation.
