Ian Watson is leading a £2m project on synthetically engineered algae to improve gut function and human nutrition. To discuss the project our personal gut functions were enhanced with beer, wine, cocktails and Thai food. Plus a static ride in a tuk tuk.

The project was funded as part of a £100m investment from UKRI to unlock the potential of engineering biology.
