Algal Biotechnology
We develop and apply novel technologies to industrial needs using a variety of algal strains and algal-bacterial consortia.
We use synthetic biology tools to increase carotenoid productivity in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, chemical inhibitors and adaptive evolution with Nannochloropsis oculata for generating long chain, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and also work closely with ecologists to decipher the mechanisms of natural info-chemicals and how these can be used to reduce costs/environmental impacts of downstream processing when using Scenedesmus subspicatus.
